Synopsis

A MUSICAL FEAST CELEBRATING THE WOMEN WHO REFUSED TO BEHAVE.

“Well-behaved women seldom make history” – Laurel Thatcher Ulrich

How would Cleopatra, Mary Magdalene, Virginia Woolf, Frida Kahlo, Billie Jean King, Cathy Freeman and Malala Yousafzai sound if we heard them sing their thoughts?

Well-Behaved Women, a song cycle by Carmel Dean is a musical feast by where these legends (and a few we’re keeping up our sleeves) are brought to life and reimagined through powerful and often hilarious songs, that celebrate the ways in which their behaviour helped them make history.

Well-behaved? As if.

You’ll all know Zahra, and her ability to sell a song, after Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. Those of you who saw Into the Woods will remember Stefanie as Rapunzel. And in a year of returning Belvoir treasures, Ursula is back for her first show since the now-legendary Barbara and the Camp Dogs. Add the voice of Elenoa, the wit of Australian composer Carmel Dean’s songs, and this one is simply guaranteed entertainment. – Eamon
