The Great Gatsby
By F. Scott Fitzgerald
Synopsis
Scott Fitzgerald’s ageless tale of riches, class and the American Dream is set in the roaring 1920s, revealing the story of eccentric millionaire Jay Gatsby as he holds lavish parties to attract the woman he loves, the married socialite Daisy Buchanan. Is it love, or is it actually an obsession?
About The Great Gatsby
The book has seen countless adaptations, including Baz Luhrmann’s movie with Leonardo DiCaprio in the starring role as Gatsby, a hugely popular immersive production in London, and a ballet by Northern Ballet. There’s even a brand new adaptation on the cards for the American Repertory Theater, created by the singer Florence Welch.
Produced on Broadway by Chunsoo Shin, the brilliant Korean musical producer and five-time winner of Korea’s top theatre award, you can expect to enter the same jazz-filled opulent world in the capital, a sophisticated and vibrant backdrop for an unforgettable story.
The show had its world premiere in New Jersey, directed by Marc Bruni and choreographed by Dominique Kelly. 2024 saw it hit Broadway with a bang, again directed by Bruni with fabulous set design by Paul Tate dePoo III. Now it’s on the way to the West End, home to the world’s finest musicals.
Chunsoo Shin, the lead producer, is delighted to be bringing this timeless, glamorous production to the UK after its huge Broadway success. The show is perfect for the London Coliseum, a venue that’s just as spectacular as the show itself. Thanks to its blend of grand architecture, historic charm and West End vibrancy, you’ll be transported back more than a century to a time that still shines bright.
The Great Gatsby cast and creatives
Directed by Marc Bruni (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical), it is adapted into musical form with a book by Kait Kerrigan (The Mad Ones) and a gorgeous original score by Jason Howland (Little Women) and Nathan Tysen (Paradise Square). The magic is choreography by Dominique Kelley (So You Think You Can Dance).
It’s good to know the Scenic and Projection Design once more comes from Paul Tate dePoo III, as it did on Broadway. The Costume Design is by Linda Cho, Lighting Design by Cory Pattak, Sound Design by Brian Ronan, and the Orchestrations come from Jason Howland and Kim Scharnberg. The Music Supervision and Arrangements are also by Howland.
