Giant
By Mark Rosenblatt
Synopsis
The highly anticipated world premiere of Mark Rosenblatt’s debut play, Giant, starring Tony, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner John Lithgow (Sweet Smell of Success, The Crown, Killers of the Flower Moon) and Olivier Award-winner Elliot Levey (Cabaret) comes to the Royal Court. Book Giant tickets on London Theatre.
Giant in London tells the story of the famous children’s author, Roald Dahl, and the outcry following an antisemitic article he wrote. The show occurs over a single afternoon at the family home in 1983, shortly before Dahl’s book, The Witches, is released. Dahl must decide if he will apologize or risk his reputation forever.
As Rosenblatt said, “Giant is my first play. When I was tearing my hair out writing it at my kitchen table, I never for a second imagined it would premiere on this landmark stage, and with this calibre of cast and creative team. It’s completelysurreal and thrilling to have it programmed as part of David Byrne’s first season. I really hope Giant gives Royal Court audiences an uncomfortably funny, urgent and provocative night in the theatre.”
In addition to the star-studded leads, the play also includes the talented Olivier-nominated actress Rachael Stirling (The Priory, An Ideal Husband), Golden Globe and Critics Choice Television Award-nominated actress Romola Garai (Emma, The Hour), Tessa Bonham Jones (A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Young Woman and the Sea), and Richard Hope (The Woman in Black, Hijack).
Giant is a play that also has an exceptional creative team including Tony and Olivier-winning director Nicholas Hytner (Carousel, The History Boys), Tony and Olivier-winning theatre designer Bob Crowley (Mary Poppins, An American in Paris), lighting designer Anna Watson (That is Not Who I Am, Imposter 22), and sound designer Alexandra Faye Braithwaite (Bloody Elle, How Not to Drown).
