Synopsis

Fiddler on the Roof has captured people around the world since its Ocasr-winning movie release in 1971. An adaptation on Broadway followed with success for almost a decade and many West End revivals, the last one at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2024. Now Jordan Fein’s critically acclaimed smash-hit production transfers to the Barbican Theatre for a limited season from 24 May 2025.

What is Fiddler on the Roof about?
Set in 1905 in the tiny village of Anatevka, Tevye is a Jewish milkman who lives his life by their proud traditions. When his three rebellious elder daughters choose their husbands, their father realises life is changing, and he must change with the times. Their choices are unexpected, but he does everything he can to open his heart and mind to new possibilities. At the same time, the wider community that lives in his tiny, remote village is also feeling the uncanny winds of change.

But it’s the songs that really mark this musical as a work of genius. Even if you’ve never seen the film you’ll recognise some of the show tunes, especially the incredibly popular ‘If I Were a Rich Man’. It’s joined by a multitude more tunes including the brilliant ‘Tradition’, ‘Matchmaker Matchmaker’, ‘Sunrise Sunset’, and more.

Fiddler on the Roof creative team
Led by director Jordan Fein (Oklahoma, Young Vic); the creative team includes choreographer Julia Cheng (Cabaret) and designer Tom Scutt (Winner of the 2024 Tony Award for Cabaret).

Fiddler on the Roof is a timeless masterpiece that weaves together tradition, family, love, and resilience against a backdrop of historical and cultural change. This is a beautiful musical that will capture your heart this spring.
